ZuZu is a 10 pound Basenji mix born in 2017.  She was trapped by Marshall County Humane Society after she and 15 dogs were dumped in the woods by a backyard breeder/hoarder.  ZuZu was emaciated and pregnant when we got her, but her puppies did not survive.  When ZuZu first got to her foster home, she spent much of the first month under the bed until she trusted her foster mom.  ZuZu would do best in an adult only household that is quiet; she is like the typical Basenji—shy and stand-offish, and needs someone with dog experience (not a first timer) who can be patient with her.  She is not cat tested but gets along well with other dogs and is food motivated.  She is protectiveof her human once she warms up, and will enjoy hanging out with you.

ZuZu’s foster mom is working with her on potty training, and she will use a pee pad if she cannot get outside.  She is good on a leash, shares her toys, and is working on learning basic commands. Her new family will need to continue with her training.  She is fed in her crate, and gets right in.  She should be crated when there is no one home.  ZuZu will try to get out of a pen or yard so she requires a home with a fence.  Despite her size, she can be a jumper, so a fence of 5’ or taller.  She loves the dog park, but as you can see in one of the pictures, her leash is kept on just in case!  ZuZu is used to fending for herself and will not hesitate to run, and she is not easy to catch!

On the  energy scale where 5 is very high energy, ZuZu scores a 3.

ZuZu is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and is on heartworm and flea/tick preventative.

All animals at Mixed Up Mutts are fully vetted prior to adoption.

For dogs, this includes—but  but is not limited to—spay or neuter, negative heartworm test, vaccines (rabies, distemper, leptospirosis, parvovirus & bordetella), microchip, complete doses of intestinal all-wormer, and heartworm and flea/tick preventative.

For cats, this includes—but is not limited too—spay or neuter, vaccines (rabies and distemper), microchip, complete doses of intestinal all-wormer, and Revolution parasite preventative.  Some cats may be tested/vaccinated for feline leukemia or FIV or be declawed.  Please review the description of each cat for more information.

Occasionally MUM will receive an animal who needs more medical attention than listed above. MUM provides this for them yet does not add it to the adoption fee. Occasionally our adoption fees may be lower for special needs or senior dogs. Because of all this, MUM relies heavily on any and all donations!

Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster evaluation of the dog. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc. it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Those interested in adopting should have read all information about the animal and understand they cannot claim they did not understand the facts about this animal as understood by Mixed Up Mutts and/or the foster.  We do our best to provide an accurate age and breed of the animal, but sometimes they are educated guesses. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.
